Scams from Africa with UK phone numbers

UK Numbers Diverted how it works

His UK Telephone is a fake because UK numbers starting with +44 70 are a redirection service which anyone from anywhere can sign up for over the Internet.

They transfer the calls to a real number which can be anywhere in the world which in the case of scammers is usually a cell phone somewhere in Nigeria.

You think you are speaking to someone in the United Kingdom but you are actually speaking to someone in Africa!

You only pay the cost of calling the UK and the scammer pays the cost of redirecting the call to Nigeria, so if you check your telephone bill it will appear
to be a legitimate call to the UK and because the scammer paid the forwarding costs from UK to Nigeria there will be no other charges on your bill, so to you it all looks legitimate.

Any UK Telephone number starting with +44 70 is one of those forwarding numbers and anyone can arrange their own personal or business UK +44 70 telephone number over the Internet, there are no restrictions, no ID checks and you don't even have to be in the United Kingdom.

Romance Scammers and Nigerian 419 scammers use +44 70xx numbers to make you believe they are in England.

Bottom line is if anyone gives you a +44 70xx number to prove to you that they are in the UK, the only thing it proves is that they are a scammer.

There are other companies with similar services,
http://www.jetnumbe rs.com/ will give you a phone number in America or Canada or just about any country you want and redirect all calls received to your real phone in your real country.

There are similar services that will give you a UK, Canadian or American fax number and you don't even need a fax machine - they convert faxes to emails and then forward them to the scammers email address.

These services were invented for legitimate business use for people who move around a lot but Scammers are getting smart and using the same technology to fool us!
